Truly Sad News...

Monday, August 13, 2007

I'm sure most of you have heard, Mike Wieringo passed away over the weekend. Unbelievably tragic news. I went to school with him at VCU. I was in the illustration program, and he was in fashion the same year. We had a few life drawing studios together. I was in awe of his talent back then...he had such a grasp on anatomy and color. And to say he was a modest guy would be an understatement. He was truly the nicest guy.

When I saw his first FLASH issue, I flipped. It was outstanding. I was a huge fan of his work on Spiderman and FF. His Tellos creation was amazing, and the art was great. I personally thought his stylizations influenced a bunch of other artists. To say he was influential would also be an understatement.

I am truly shocked and saddened by his death. My condolences to his family and friends. Please check out his work if you get the chance.

Rest in peace, mike. You left too soon...
